Say Hi to Ben

Problem

How to inspire better financial health through a mobile banking application?

Opportunity

To design an experience that would transform the traditional passive banking experience
into an active and rewarding partnership.

How We Work

A small team of UX and interactive designers from Critical Mass embedded within Citi’s Fin-Tech team. We collaborated with Citi’s  product owners, strategists and developers:

  • One unified team. No client/agency friction.
  • Many informal check-ins. No grand reveals.
  • Working directly with developers in agile sprints.

Definition

Starting with high-level quantitative data and qualitative user research we created a set of personas that embodied our users needs, wants, and emotional drivers.

From there we created user journeys that helped the broader team identify key opportunities,  define features, and develop a product roadmap.

Concept Wireframes

From hand sketches to digital wire frames, we explored a range of conceptual frameworks and shared them with users in order to validate our approach.

Defining a System

We began to define functionality and a design system that would accommodate a broad range of users and a wide array of circumstances. Then we took high fidelity wire frames through governance and technical review.

Final Design

With the assurance that our approach resonated with users and met the technical requirements,  we collaborated with the design and development team to bring the new version of the app to life.

Results

With a 4.8 rating in the app store we knew we were on the right track. Now it was time to monitor the user data to so where we could refine the features and make sure we were delivering an experience that was meeting our users' needs and fulfilling our business goals.
